Lyons open NEWMAC schedule with sweep against visiting ClarkApril 1, 2006 NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College men's tennis team racked up nine victories en route to sweeping Clark University, 7-0 in its New England Women's and Men's Conference (NEWMAC) opener at the Clark Tennis Courts on Saturday. The win gave the Blue and White a 5-2 mark, while the Cougars dropped to 2-6. Wheaton clinched the doubles point early thanks to strong showings in the top two positions. Senior Nick Potter (Concord, NH/Concord) and junior Payum Payman (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) combined for an 8-3 win at the first spot, while the junior duo of Brian Danishevsky (Hamden, CT/Hamden Hall Country Day) and Brad Dressler (Cranston, RI/Cranston West) blanked their opponents, 8-0 at second doubles. At third doubles, senior Jeff Selesnick (Concord, NH/Concord) and junior Raymour Radhakrishnan (Amherst, NH/Bridgton Academy) fought back from a 7-4 deficit for a 9-8 win, clinching the doubles sweep with a 7-3 decision in the tiebreaker. Dressler and Potter led the way for the Lyons in singles as they recorded 6-2, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-3 victories at the fourth and fifth slots, respectively. Senior Mike Moss (Needham, MA/Needham) tallied another straight-set win, recording a 6-3, 6-4 win in the sixth spot to clinch the match. Sophomore Sean Daly (Miami, FL/La Salle) played up one spot, moving into the first singles position and earning a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Clark senior Anuj Ladha (Manila, Philippines/Brent International School of Manila). Danishevsky fought back from a one-set deficit against senior Nikola Milinkovic (Belgrade, Yugoslavia/American School of The Hague) to record a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 win at second singles. Senior Matt Sheers (Beacon, NY/Beacon) completed the sweep at third singles.
