Wheaton trio sweeps NEWMAC weekly men's tennis awards

March 20, 2006

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's tennis standout Payum Payman (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) earned New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Singles-Player-of-the-Week honors for the week ending on Sunday, March 19, while the tandem of Brian Danishevsky (Hamden, CT/Hamden Hall Country Day School) and Brad Dressler (Cranston, RI/Cranston West) was named doubles team of the week.

Payman, a junior, recorded a perfect 4-0 singles record in the top position during Wheaton's 3-1 southern trip last week in Hilton Head, South Carolina. He posted a trio of straight-set victories and one three-set win. Payman was victorious over his opponents from Vassar College, Georgetown College, Hobart College and Southwestern University. Including the fall campaign, Payman is 10-2 during his junior year after recording 13 wins all of his sophomore season.

The junior duo of Danishevsky and Dressler combined for a 3-1 record during Wheaton's southern swing. Danishevsky and Dressler turned in victories from the second doubles spot over Hobart and Southwestern and a win from the number-three position against Georgetown. The pair is 6-2 overall this year and 17-3 the past two seasons.

Wheaton went 3-1 on its Spring Break trip and returns to action Thursday at Brandeis University at 4:00 p.m.
