Men's tennis drops first Spring Break match since 2002

HILTON HEAD, SC- The Wheaton College men's tennis team had its 15-match winning streak in Hilton Head snapped, as the Lyons fell there for the first time since March 14, 2002 with a 5-2 loss to Georgetown College on Monday. Wheaton is now 1-1 on the season.

Senior Nick Potter (Concord, NH/Concord) and junior Payum Payman (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) each won singles matches to earn the Blue and White points. Payman took down freshman Matias Carcamo (Temuco, Chile/Colegio Baptista) at the top spot, 6-3, 6-2, while Potter picked up a fifth-slot victory against junior DJ McClure (Owensboro, KY/Owensboro), 6-4, 7-5. The Tigers notched their singles points at the second, third, fourth and sixth spots.

During doubles action, Wheaton's third team of juniors Brian Danishevsky (Hamden, CT/Hamden Hall Country Day School) and Brad Dressler (Cranston, RI/Cranston West) sided for an 8-4 victory over McClure and senior Michael Roenigk (Prospect, KY/South Oldham). Potter and junior Will Stoddard (Huntington, VT/Mount Mansfield Union) nearly pulled out the doubles point for the Lyons but narrowly fell, 8-6 to freshmen Eugenio Aspillaga (Santiago, Chile/Bertait College) and Andres Escalante (Frankfort, KY/Franklin Co.).

The Lyons play the third match of their four-match Southern swing against Hobart College tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
