Wheaton faces pair of Division I squads at four-team Keuka Invitational

KEUKA PARK, NY- In its second trip to New York in three weekends, the Wheaton College synchronized swimming team competed at Keuka College's four-team invitational, as the Lyons took fourth at Ayers Pool on Saturday.

The Lyons tallied 66 points under first-year head coach Rebecca Story, who is a 2006 Keuka graduate and former four-year swimmer with the Storm. Canisius College won the event with 98 points and was followed by The Ohio State University and Keuka.

During the routines portion of the meet, Wheaton posted a pair of fourth-place marks, including in the team category as senior Megan Kinney (Los Angeles, CA/Marlborough School), junior Sylvia Syracuse (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore West), sophomores Laura Montes (San Juan, PR/Academia San Jose) and Jenna Swinkin (Hamden, CT/Hamden), and freshmen Jenna Calvino (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack) and Sonvje Ryen (Bozeman, MT/Manhattan Christian) competed.

Swinkin and Syracuse teamed up for a fourth-place standing in the duet competition, finishing behind a pair of Canisius squads and one Ohio State tandem. Montes placed fifth as Wheaton's lone soloist, while she, Ryen and Swinkin took sixth in the trio routine.

In figures, Calvino captured the D category title, besting six Keuka swimmers with 61.378 points. Ryen earned runner-up honors in C figures, missing the top mark by 0.108 points, while Kinney rounded out the school's top-five placements by taking fourth in the B category.

Wheaton returns to Ayers Pool tomorrow for the conclusion of the weekend's competitions, as Keuka hosts a tri-meet with the Lyons and Buckeyes. Sunday's event will only be routines and is set to start at 11:00 a.m.
