Lyons top own four-team invitational, Montes contributes to four winsFebruary 9, 2008 NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College synchronized swimming team won all four routines and had the highest average in each of the three figures competitions it entered, as the Lyons won their own four-team invitational behind 91.5 points on Saturday in Balfour Natatorium. Boston University was the runner up with 79 points, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) had 66, and Smith College totaled 51.5. Sophomore Laura Montes (San Juan, PR/Academia San Jose) played a hand in four victories for the Lyons, first winning the A figures competition with 71.314 points as the only athlete in the field. Montes' solo score of 72.000 pushed her to the top, and she joined sophomore Jenna Swinkin (Hamden, CT/Hamden) and freshman Sonvje Ryen (Bozeman, MT/Manhattan Christian) to total 73.000 points for the winning trio routine. In the team category, Montes, Ryen and Swinkin swam with senior Megan Kinney (Los Angeles, CA/Marlborough School), junior Sylvia Syracuse (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore West) and freshman Jenna Calvino (Merrimack, NH/Merrimack), as they recorded a field-high 77.333 points. In B figures, Kinney placed first with 67.901 points, followed by Syracuse in second at 66.948 and Swinkin in third with 65.478. Calvino finished second in D at 56.145, just 1.279 points behind the winner from Boston University.
