Lyons turn in runner-up finish during ECAC Championship at PennMarch 17, 2007 PHILADELPHIA, PA- One event victory and four second-place finishes buoyed the Wheaton College synchronized swimming team to a runner-up showing out of four teams on Saturday at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship in the University of Pennsylvania's Pottruck Health and Fitness Center. The Lyons' 82 points left them behind only Canisius College and its 102, while Wheaton earned its best finish since 2005. The Lyons drew their top showings during the figures portion of the meet, as senior Renata Paglio (Portland, ME/Deering) won D figures with 60.095 points, while sophomore Sharada Strasmore (Weston, CT/Weston) and freshman Jenna Swinkin (Hamden, CT/Hamden) placed second in A and C figures with 76.82 and 68.311 points, respectively. Junior Megan Kinney (Los Angeles, CA/Marlborough School) was third in B figures with 69.913 points, freshman Laura Montes (San Juan, PR/Academia San Jose) finished fourth at 69.674, and sophomore Sylvia Syracuse (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore West) was sixth at 69.444. Senior Sarah Swinkin (Hamden, CT/Hamden) notched 68.281 points in C figures to finish third, right behind sister Jenna, while sophomore Kelly Maby (Woodhaven, NY/Richmond Hill) was third in D figures with 58.595 points. Montes earned second place during solo routines with 85.5 points before helping Wheaton's team routine come in second with 87.5 points. Montes joined Kinney, Strasmore, the Swinkins, Syracuse and senior Elizabeth Corman (Saint Paul, MN/Hill-Murray School). In trio, Corman, Montes and Strasmore combined for third place with 83.75 points, just ahead of the fourth-place team of the Swinkins and Syracuse, which tallied 82.25 points. In duet, Maby and Paglio had 73.750 points during a fourth-place showing. The ECAC Championship was the Lyons' final preparation for the U.S. Collegiate Championship, which begins in Wheaton's Balfour Natatorium on Thursday. The three-day competition will attract more than 20 teams from around the country, and the Blue and White looks to earn a top-10 finish for the 19th consecutive season.
