Paglio and Jenna Swinkin notch synchro wins at East Collegiate Regional

BOSTON, MA- Senior Renata Paglio (Portland, ME/Deering) and freshman Jenna Swinkin (Hamden, CT/Hamden) each placed first in a figures category and pushed the Wheaton College synchronized swimming squad to third place at the nine-team East Collegiate Regional on Saturday in Boston University's Fitness and Recreation Center.

In placing third for the third straight year, Wheaton notched 69 points, just behind second-place Keuka College's 81 points. Canisius College won with 102 points.

Jenna Swinkin and senior Sarah Swinkin (Hamden, CT/Hamden) occupied the top two spots in C figures. Jenna won with 69.897 points, while sister Sarah narrowly missed winning with 69.612 points. Paglio earned the top position in D figures by virtue of her 58.892 points.

Sophomore Sharada Strasmore (Weston, CT/Weston) placed fourth in A figures with 75.92568 points, while junior co-captain Megan Kinney (Los Angeles, CA/Marlborough School) came in eighth during the B figures competition with 70.667 points.

The Lyons' top finish during routines was in the team category, as the Blue and White placed third with 84.000 points. Kinney, Strasmore and the Swinkin sisters were joined on the team by senior co-captain Elizabeth Corman (Saint Paul, MN/Hill-Murray School), sophomore Sylvia Syracuse (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore West) and freshman Laura Montes (San Juan, PR/Academia San Jose).

Montes came in fourth during the solo routines with 81.250 points, and she combined with Corman and Strasmore for a fourth-place showing in trio with 79.500 points. The Swinkins joined Syracuse for 77.500 points while coming in sixth. The Lyons' duet of Paglio and sophomore Kelly Maby (Woodhaven, NY/Richmond Hill) took sixth with 72.000 points.

Wheaton is off until Saturday, March 17, when the Lyons begin competition at the two-day Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship at the University of Pennsylvania.
