Lyons take bronze at Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship

March 20, 2004

ITHACA, NY- The Wheaton College synchronized swimming team captured third place at this weekend's Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship held at Cornell University, as the Lyons brought home the bronze for the second consecutive season. Wheaton totaled 73 points, just three points shy of Keuka College for second place. Canisius College was the overall team champion with an impressive 104 points.

Wheaton's team routine finished fourth behind a pair of Canisius teams and Keuka's squad, as senior co-captains Beth Percy (St. Louis, MO/Parkway West) and Aimee Sears (Norwell, MA/Thayer Academy) alongside juniors Blair Feldman (Tucson, AZ/Green Fields Country Day School) and Jamie Olken (Brighton, NY/Brighton), sophomore Jocelyn Phillips (Belmont, MA/Belmont) and freshman Elizabeth Corman (St. Paul, MN/Hill-Murray) posted a total of 81.833 points.

Percy continued to shine at the meet, highlighted by her top scoring performance in the technical elements portion of the competition. Percy was one of only three athletes to score over 80 points in the event, as she edged two Canisius competitors. She wasn't done yet, as the three-time All-Collegiate performer placed second overall in the solo routine and third in trio. Percy had 88.500 points in the solo and sided with Feldman and Corman for 83.000 points.

In duet, Olken and Phillips placed fifth overall with 80.167 points, while senior Liana Cardillo (Bedford, NH/West) and freshman Renata Paglio (Portland, ME/Deering) swam exhibition and scored 69.333 points. Rounding out the meet results for the Lyons came in figures, as Corman and Cardillo each were victorious in their respective categories. Corman led all competitors for the fourth time this season with 67.538 points in C figures, while Cardillo was the meet's top scorer in the D category with 60.987 points.

Closely behind Corman in C figures was Phillips and Olken with second and third-place finishes, respectively. Sears placed 11th overall in the same category and Paglio finished 18th among 37 competitors in D figures. Feldman was Wheaton's lone athlete in the B category, as she stood 23rd overall with a score of 67.537 points.

Wheaton will now devote full attention to next weekend's United States Collegiate Championship, where the Lyons hope to better their ninth-place finish from one year ago. The meet is scheduled to take place at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor from March 25-27.
