Wheaton College hires Eng as head synchronized swimming coach

August 18, 2003

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College Executive Director of Athletics, Chad Yowell, has announced the hiring of Anna Eng as head synchronized swimming coach, effective August 15, 2003. Eng replaces Mary Kay Adams, who resigned after 11 seasons with the Lyons.

Eng served as the head synchronized swimming coach for the club team at the University of Pennsylvania for the past two seasons. During that stint, she guided the Quakers to a 16th place finish at the United States Collegiate National Championship.

"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work for such a prestigious academic institution," said Eng. "I feel very blessed to be in a position where I can utilize my experiences to work with talented swimmers and actively help the collegiate program reach its full potential."

At Penn, Eng supervised the athletes in decisions regarding budget, travel and recruiting. She also devised training programs consisting of aerobic conditioning, strength training, flexibility, nutrition and mental imagery. Since last November, Eng also worked at NovaCare Outpatient Rehabilitation in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In addition to working as a head coach and physical therapist, Eng served in other relevant capacities, including helping to manage the 2003 Junior National Team and Senior National Team II as well as assisting with the Chester County Barracudas synchronized swimming team. A native of West Chester, Pennsylvania, Eng and her mother Barbara founded the Barracudas in 1994. Over the last couple of years, she helped develop swimmers ages 12-18 to Age-Group National finalists in 2002 and East Zone finalists in 2003.

Highly involved with synchro for over ten years, Eng somehow finds time to serve on several committees and task forces. She currently presides over the Athlete Executive Committee, representing athletes of all levels, and is a member of the Collegiate Task Force and Education Task Force.

A 2001 graduate of The Ohio State University, Eng earned a bachelor's degree in physical therapy. After competing with the Chester County Barracudas from 1994-97, she decided to walk on to the highly-touted Buckeye program. Over her career, Eng progressed to the OSU A squad and National Team II by 2001 and was a part of two U.S. Collegiate National Championship teams in 2000 and 2001. Garnering several individual accolades along the way, Eng was a finalist for the Big Ten Medal of Honor and was honored as a Collegiate All-American in 2001. Additionally, she was a four-time OSU scholar-athlete, three-time Academic All-American and three-time Academic All-Big Ten.
