Kelleher and Moynagh each earn NFCA All-New England accoladesMay 6, 2008 NORTON, MA- Wheaton College softball senior Jodi Moynagh (Worcester, MA/Holy Name Central Catholic) and junior Stacey Kelleher (Brockton, MA/Brockton) each earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-New England honors, with Kelleher landing on the first team for the second consecutive season and Moynagh drawing the first regional accolade of her career. Kelleher was selected as the NFCA's first-team designated player, while Moynagh was one of two second-team pitchers, as they were among 45 athletes to land on one of the organization's three 15-player squads. This marked the 13th time in 14 years that Wheaton had at least two NFCA All-New England honorees. Both Lyons were selected to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference first team this spring. Kelleher, who also saw some time at first base, batted .384 with 26 runs and 25 RBI, falling just three short of the team lead despite missing five games. She paced the squad in on-base percentage (.431), tied for the team lead in bases on balls (7), and was second in doubles (12) and slugging percentage (.643) while tying for second in home runs (5). Kelleher recorded 10 multiple-hit contests and at one point had a 14-game hitting streak. From the sixth inning on, Kelleher was even tougher to retire, batting .423 with an .885 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base clip. She slugged three home runs and three doubles with seven runs and seven RBI in the sixth inning or later. Moynagh finished off a stellar career by going 17-5 this spring with a 1.37 earned run average, spinning 15 complete games and six shutouts while striking out 172 and walking only 32 in 158.1 innings. Opponents batted just .195 off of Moynagh. Among all NEWMAC players, she ranked second in wins and strikeouts, as well as third in ERA, innings pitched and opposing batting average. Moynagh struck out six-plus batters 19 times in 25 starts. This spring, Moynagh became the third Lyon hurler to post three 100-strikeout seasons. She is fifth in single-season strikeouts at Wheaton and 10th in wins and shutouts. For her career, Moynagh is tied for second in saves, ranks third in each wins, strikeouts, pitching appearances, innings and complete games, and sits fourth in shutouts. Wheaton completed the season 29-14 overall, going 12-4 in NEWMAC play to place second in the league standings. The Lyons fell in the NEWMAC Tournament during the semifinal round, advancing at least that far for the 19th time in 21 seasons of league play. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz.
