Wheaton, which has won four straight via the mercy rule, is now 13-9 overall and 5-1 in the league, while the Engineers fell to 1-11 and 0-4. Senior Jessica DePolito (Taunton, MA/Coyle and Cassidy) and junior Alix Brozman (Chappaqua, NY/Horace Greeley) each went 5-for-6 during the doubleheader, as DePolito had three extra-base hits and six RBI, while Brozman stole five bases in as many attempts. Each was key in the opener as the Lyons broke out on top with two runs in the first. Senior Nicole Lachance (Rochester, NH/Spaulding) and Brozman both singled to lead off the game, and DePolito doubled them home one out later. Brozman also scored in the third to put Wheaton up, 3-0. After junior Amanda Poteet (Grass Valley, CA/Nevada Union) launched MIT's first home run of the year in the fourth inning to bring the visitors within 3-1, the Lyons tallied seven runs on five hits and three errors in the bottom of the frame. Brozman had an RBI single, two steals and a run during the inning, while DePolito smacked a run-scoring double. Sophomore Brady Benton (Concord, NH/Concord) added an RBI double in the inning, while freshman Merry MacDonald (Braintree, MA/Braintree) also brought home a run. Junior Jodi Moynagh (Worcester, MA/Holy Name Central Catholic), who tossed a perfect game on Sunday, struck out eight while walking two and allowing three hits in five innings. Poteet's home run ended Moynagh's streak of 20.2 innings without yielding an earned run. Brozman finished 3-for-3 with three runs and three steals, while DePolito was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Junior Erika Marini (Pawtucket, RI/Saint Raphael Academy) also doubled. For MIT, junior Leah Bogsted (Levittown, NJ/Gen. Douglas MacArthur) took the loss after allowing only three earned runs in four innings on 10 hits while striking out four and walking none. In the nightcap, Wheaton stole nine bases and recorded 14 hits. The Lyons started strong in game two with five first-inning runs on six hits and two errors. DePolito, junior Meredith Gorton (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) and sophomore Stacey Kelleher (Brockton, MA/Brockton) each had RBI singles during the inning, while Benton provided a sacrifice fly. Three more runs came home the following inning, as Lachance led off with a double and later scored on Kelleher's single, and DePolito lined a two-run homer off the left field foul pole. It was her fifth home run in the last seven games. Benton plated the Lyons' final run in the fourth, as she stole home. DePolito had another big game by going 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs, while junior Audrey Poulton (Charlestown, RI/Chariho Regional) added a 3-for-3 effort. DePolito is now alone in fifth in program history with 16 career home runs. Kelleher was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Brozman and Gorton each had two-hit games.
