Wheaton earns women's soccer academic award for sixth straight year

December 22, 2006

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's soccer earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the sixth straight season as one of 234 squads from all levels of the NCAA, NAIA and junior college ranks to draw the honor for the 2005-06 academic year.

Each team will be honored at the 60th annual NSCAA convention on January 10-14 in Indianapolis. As one of nine Division III schools from New England to qualify, the award capped a season in which the Lyons went 21-2-1 and made an NCAA Tournament appearance for the seventh straight season.

A trio of Wheaton athletes who played a major hand in the award each drew individual academic accolades this past fall. Junior co-captain Erin Davis (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow), who also earned All-America honors, was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic College Division All-District I third team for the second straight year by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Junior Katelyn Brack (Lake Oswego, OR/Oregon Episcopal School) and sophomore Jessie Landau (Pound Ridge, NY/Fox Lane) each qualified for the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference squad.
