Viscomi's two scores leads Lyons to 10th straight win with 4-0 final at Coast Guard

October 10, 2006

NEW LONDON, CT- Sophomore Angelamaria Viscomi (Newton, MA/Newton North) scored both of her goals in the first 16:36 of play Tuesday night, and the nationally-ranked Wheaton College women's soccer team continued its torrid pace with a 4-0 final over the United States Coast Guard Academy in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.

Wheaton's victory extended a pair of streaks tonight, including remaining unbeaten in conference play for 69 straight games. The Lyons, who entered the game ranked 11th in the country and second in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), also won their 10th consecutive game to improve to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in the league. Coast Guard falls to 4-9 on the year while remaining winless in conference play at 0-5.

Viscomi took the team lead in scoring with her seventh goal of the fall just 1:19 into regulation, taking a feed from junior Ashley Furr (Chicopee, MA/Cathedral), and the Lyons never looked back. Viscomi added a second score at 16:36 with the assist going to junior Jenna Rabesa (Teaticket, MA/Falmouth), as Wheaton carried a 2-0 edge into the break.

The Lyons made the score 3-0 shortly after the halftime intermission, when junior Katelyn Brack (Lake Oswego, OR/Oregon Episcopal) posted an unassisted tally at 51:30. In the 75th minute, freshman Chloe Truglio (Berlin, CT/Kingswood-Oxford School) got into the action by scoring her first collegiate goal. Classmate Rosie Levy (Torrance, CA/Chadwick School) was credited with the helper on the play.

Wheaton used a combined effort in net to collect the shutout, as junior Elana Cockburn (Chestnut Hill, MA/Brookline) and freshman Abby Isaac (Larchmont, NY/Proctor Academy) had three saves between them. For the Bears, sophomore Trish Ohle (Franklin Lakes, NJ) stopped seven Blue and White shots.

Wheaton looks to extend its NEWMAC unbeaten stretch to 70 games on Saturday with a home game versus Clark University at 1:00 p.m.
