Kronenberg breaks women's soccer shutout record, leads Lyons to third straight shutout win at UMaine-Farmington

September 16, 2006

FARMINGTON, ME- Junior goalkeeper Stacey Kronenberg (Belchertown, MA/Belchertown) broke Wheaton College women's soccer's career complete-game shutout record Saturday, leading the Lyons to their third straight shutout win with a 2-0 victory at UMaine-Farmington's Prescott Field.

Wheaton, which came into the game ranked 23rd nationally in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll, raised its overall record to 6-1, while the Beavers suffered their second consecutive shutout loss in falling to 1-2.

Kronenberg came into today's contest with 26 shutouts, having recorded 13 her freshman year, 12 during her sophomore season and one Thursday against Worcester State College. Kronenberg surpassed Emily Boeing's '02 all-time mark of 26 shutouts. Posting six saves in this afternoon's win, Kronenberg improved her season record to 4-1.

Kronenberg wasn't the only Wheaton player moving up the program's all-time charts, as junior Jenna Rabesa's (Teaticket, MA/Falmouth) goal and assist moved her into the top 10 for career points and goals. Rabesa is now in sole possession of 10th place in the school's annals with 62 points and tied for 10th with 21 goals.

Rabesa assisted on today's game-winner in the 23rd minute, as she began the play with a throw-in into the box to junior Katelyn Brack (Lake Oswego, OR/Oregon Episcopal School), who laid it back to sophomore Jessica Bramucci (Ludlow, MA/Wilbraham and Monson Academy) for the hard shot.

In the 31st minute, Rabesa scored after sneaking in the back door and hitting both posts with her shot. Junior Lauren Konopka (Medford, NJ/Holy Cross) and freshman Rosie Levy (Torrance, CA/Chadwick School) had the assists. The Lyons finished the day with a 32-6 shot advantage.

Wheaton remains on the road Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference game at Eastern Connecticut State University. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
