Lyons pull away from halftime tie for 4-2 triumph at EndicottSeptember 6, 2006 BEVERLY, MA- The nationally-ranked Wheaton College women's soccer team pulled away from a halftime tie with two second-stanza tallies during a 4-2 victory over Endicott College under the lights Wednesday evening at Endicott Stadium. The Lyons, who are tied for 15th in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) poll, moved to 3-0 and handed the Gulls their first loss in three contests. Wheaton freshman Kathleen Carroll (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz Central) tallied the game's first goal for the third straight contest, scoring at 1:31, and junior Lauren Konopka (Medford, NJ/Holy Cross) later netted the first of her two goals on the evening at 35:36 thanks to sophomore Jessica Bramucci's (Ludlow, MA/Wilbraham and Monson Academy) helper. However, Endicott tallied twice in the final five minutes of the opening half to force a 2-2 deadlock at intermission. Junior Ashley Clark (West Newbury, MA/Pentucket Regional) and sophomore Cali Collin (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) notched the Gulls' goals during a 3:43 span. Wheaton controlled play in the second half, holding a 17-5 advantage in shots, and Konopka buried the game-winner less than 13 minutes into the period. Carroll and junior Jenna Rabesa (Teaticket, MA/Falmouth Regional) recorded assists, with Rabesa earning her second of the night. Bramucci capped the scoring with a little less than 13 minutes left off freshman Rosie Levy's (Torrance, CA/Chadwick School) assist. Junior keepers Elana Cockburn (Chestnut Hill, MA/Brookline) and Stacey Kronenberg (Belchertown, MA/Belchertown) shared time for Wheaton and combined for four saves. Endicott senior Tina Loguidice (Hyde Park, MA/F.D. Roosevelt) turned aside six shots as the Lyons held a 30-8 edge in shots. Wheaton begins a three-game homestand with a contest against Western Connecticut State University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The Colonials are receiving votes in the national poll.
