Cote and Ferriero two of six NEWMAC players selected to compete in NEISL Senior All-Star game

April 4, 2008

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's soccer standouts Trevor Cote (Portsmouth, RI/Providence Country Day School) and Jim Ferriero (Medway, MA/Medway) were selected to compete in the New England Intercollegiate Soccer League (NEISL) Senior All-Star game on Saturday, May 3 at Clark University at 3:00 p.m. This marks the fifth straight year in which at least one Lyon was picked to play in the contest.

Representing the NCAA Division III squad, Cote and Ferriero will play on a team that faces Division I and II counterparts. Wheaton is one of eight Division III schools with at least two players. Cote and Ferriero are two of six New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) players who were chosen to the squad.

A three-time NEWMAC All-Conference midfielder, Cote tallied four goals and two assists during 22 starts last fall. Also garnering all-region honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for the 2007 season, Cote posted three game-winning tallies, including scoring the go-ahead goals against Bridgewater State College in the NCAA Tournament and Babson College that clinched the regular season conference title.

Ferriero, who was tabbed to an all-conference team as a defender for the first time in his career, turned in both of his assists for the fall during Wheaton's regular season win over Babson. He started the last 21 games of the season and anchored a defense that allowed 1.26 goals per game with six shutouts. A four-year starter for the Lyons, Ferriero leaves the program among the top 10 in games played at 83.

In four years, the duo led the Blue and White to four NCAA Tournament appearances, four NEWMAC regular season championships and three conference tournament titles. As freshmen, Cote and Ferriero contributed to a team that advanced to the sectional semifinal round of the NCAA Tournament. During their careers, the men's soccer program went 56-20-11 overall and 19-3-2 in league play.
