Lyons get back on winning track with 5-1 road victory against HussonOctober 13, 2007 BANGOR, ME- The Wheaton College men's soccer team got back on the winning track Saturday afternoon when the Lyons turned a 2-1 halftime lead into a 5-1 triumph at non-conference foe Husson College on Boucher Field during the teams' first meeting. Ranked seventh in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) regional poll, Wheaton raises its season record to 9-4-3. The Eagles had their five-game winning streak snapped in falling to 7-8-1 overall. Freshman David Ferriero (Medway, MA/Medway) set the tone for the Lyons in the early going, scoring just 5:40 into action on an offering from classmate Kyle Sye (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxboro Regional). Ferriero struck again with just under 19 minutes remaining, this time from senior Dan Chong (Miami, FL/Coral Reef). The hosts cut their deficit in half just a few minutes after that, as junior Nattapong Kongsuria (Bangkok, Thailand/Hampden) posted an unassisted tally. Wheaton put the game away early in the second half, scoring twice during a 5:40 span in securing a commanding 4-1 advantage. Chong knocked home his second goal of the season on helpers from Sye and sophomore Adam Sussman (Swampscott, MA/Swampscott) with 31:43 to play. Sussman and freshman Jake Wagner (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) then assisted senior Nick Mann's (Durham, NC/Carolina Friends School) goal at 26:03. Freshman Jason Lewis (Chelsea, MA/Worcester Academy) finished off the scoring with his first collegiate goal, which senior Ian Walker (Marblehead, MA/IMG Academy) assisted with 16:26 left. Wheaton held a 17-11 shot advantage and a 2-1 edge in corner kicks. All three Lyon goalkeepers saw action in the game, with freshman Chris Smart (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield) earning the start and picking up the win with one save in the opening half. Classmates Cole Davidson (Needham, MA/Salisbury School) and Stefan Viragh (Columbus, OH/Wellington School) combined for three second-half stops. Husson freshman Miguel Dominguez (Rome, GA/Rome) made four saves in the loss.
