Lyons extend unbeaten streak to four with tie against regional foe WNECSeptember 13, 2007 SPRINGFIELD, MA- Wheaton College fought Western New England College to a 1-1 double-overtime tie on Thursday at Suprenant Field during a battle between two of the top men's soccer squads in New England. The Lyons, who are tied for sixth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) regional poll, extended their unbeaten streak to four games in moving to 3-1-2. The eighth-ranked Golden Bears are now 3-1-1. A pair of former high school teammates put the Lyons on the board first, as freshman Josh Solomon (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxboro Regional) converted his third goal of the season in the 60th minute off classmate Kyle Sye's (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxboro Regional) helper. However, the hosts knotted the game with 5:37 remaining in regulation, as sophomore Nick Zarka (Farmington, CT/Farmington) scored off classmate Justin Martins' (Ludlow, MA/Ludlow) assist after the ball rattled through the box. Wheaton finished with an 11-7 advantage in shots for the game, while the Golden Bears edged the Lyons in corner kicks, 6-4. Freshman Chris Smart (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield) made one save for the visitors, while senior Steve Hennessey (Essex Junction, VT/Essex) had two stops for Western New England.
