Wheaton's Habib and Pachniuk picked for NEISL Senior All-Star game

April 18, 2007

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's soccer standouts Cameron Habib (Norfolk, MA/Bridgton Academy) and Matt Pachniuk (Newtown, CT/Newtown) were recently voted to compete in the New England Intercollegiate Soccer League (NEISL) Senior All-Star game on Saturday, April 28 at Clark University at 4:00 p.m.

Habib and Pachniuk, who will play on the NCAA Division III team against their Division I and II counterparts, represent one of eight Division III schools with at least two players. They are also two of just seven players from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) who were selected to participate.

One of just three Division III goalies tabbed to play, Pachniuk helped lead Wheaton to an unprecedented fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament and 12-5-4 record. A four-year starter for the Lyons, Pachniuk allowed just 20 goals in 19 games for a 1.06 goals against average with six shutouts. Posting a season mark of 10-5-3, he surrendered more than one goal on only six occasions.

A three-time NEWMAC All-Conference selection and 2004 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-New England player, Pachniuk will leave Wheaton as the program's career leader with 54 wins and 29 shutouts. He also paces all Lyon keepers in minutes played while placing third in saves.

Habib, who also started four years for the Blue and White, was voted to the NEWMAC All-Conference team as a midfielder for the first time in his career. Joining one teammate in starting all 21 games, Habib finished the season with a career-high 10 points. He was tied for second on the team in assists and tied for third in goals. During his career, Habib totaled 11 goals, six assists, 28 points and five game-winners.

The tandem led Wheaton to one of its most successful stretches in school history. In addition to helping take the Lyons to their first NCAA Tournament Final Four appearance as freshmen, Habib and Pachniuk played a part in three conference tournament titles and a trio of regular season championships. During the last four years, Wheaton posted an overall record of 61-17-10 and a NEWMAC mark of 20-3-1.
