Lane garners regional awards from NSCAA and D3Kicks.comDecember 6, 2006 NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's soccer sophomore forward Dan Lane (Dedham, MA/Worcester Academy) added a couple regional awards to his collection after being named to the All-New England second teams by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and D3Kicks.com. Lane, who is a two-time NSCAA All-New England and NEWMAC All-Conference selection, led the Lyons in scoring for the second straight season. His 11 goals and 25 points ranked second overall among the conference's statistical leaders. He also posted four game-winning goals in the fall, pushing his career total to nine. Serving as Wheaton's offensive catalyst, Lane helped the Lyons go 7-1-2 when registering at least one point. When he was active, the Blue and White went 4-4-2 without Lane contributing to the scoring column. Early in the season, Lane played a hand in eight of nine Lyon goals in one stretch during games in which he played, including all five of Wheaton's goals during one three-game span. Making his mark in the program's record book in just two seasons, Lane already ranks ninth in career goals with 24. He is eight tallies shy of moving into sole possession of third on Wheaton's all-time scoring list. His 54 points are just five short of joining the program's top 10. Since 1996, when the school began tracking game-winning goals, only six Lyons have more such tallies than Lane, though each played at least three full seasons. Lane helped lead Wheaton into the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive season and sixth time in the last seven campaigns. The Lyons finished the season with an overall record of 12-5-4, including a 5-1 mark in the NEWMAC. Wheaton has captured back-to-back regular season and tournament conference championships, bringing its totals to six each in the NEWMAC's nine-year history. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz.
