Harlow voted NEWMAC's top female for unprecedented third timeMay 1, 2007 WORCESTER, MA- Wheaton College senior track and field star Jennifer Harlow (East Bridgewater, MA/East Bridgewater) was voted New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Female Athlete of the Year for the third consecutive time during Tuesday's postseason coaches meeting at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). One of five Lyons to garner the NEWMAC's top women's athlete honor and the only repeat winner in the league's nine-year history, Harlow earned the award for the third successive spring. She picked up four all-conference laurels as a top-two finisher in a quartet of events during last Saturday's NEWMAC meet at the United States Coast Guard Academy. Upping her all-league citations total to 13 during her decorated career, Harlow won the high jump for the second consecutive spring while running a leg on the winning 4x100-meter relay team. She also placed second in the 100-meter hurdles and long jump competitions. Harlow jumped an NCAA national meet provisional qualifying height of 5' 5" in the high jump while sprinting to a 15.31 finish in the 100-meter hurdles and posting a 17' 5 1/4" mark in the long jump. The 4x100M relay foursome's time of 48.96 fell just 0.16 seconds shy of a provisional standard. Harlow helped the Lyons take second as a team among Saturday's eight-team field, as Wheaton's bid to win its 10th consecutive conference championship came up short. The Blue and White won the NEW 8 title in 1998 and eight straight NEWMAC crowns from 1999-2006. With three meets remaining prior to the national championship, Wheaton continues its season this weekend at the NCAA Division III New England Championship at Springfield College.
