Ezeigwe and Harlow win events as Lyon men and women take part in MIT's non-scoring Coed InvitationalApril 21, 2007 CAMBRIDGE, MA- Senior All-American Jennifer Harlow (East Bridgewater, MA/East Bridgewater) and sophomore Chizoba Ezeigwe (Brockton, MA/Thayer Academy) each won events to pace the Wheaton College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams on Saturday at Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) non-scoring Coed Invitational in Steinbrenner Stadium. Harlow won a high jump competition for the third straight weekend with a height of 5' 7 1/4", which met automatic qualification for the NCAA Championship. The national indoor champion bested the runner up by seven inches. Ezeigwe met provisional qualification for the national meet during a 200-meter dash victory in 24.66, which was just 0.11 seconds off an automatic time. An additional handful of women placed among the top five in their events, including Harlow in each the 100-meter hurdles and long jump competitions. At 16' 11 1/4" in the long jump, she was 1 1/2" behind the winner. Sophomore Celeste Karpow (Wilton, CT/Wilton) was second in the 400-meter hurdles, while classmates Lily Calderwood (Harvard, MA/Bromfield School) and Morgan Jamiel (Warwick, RI/Toll Gate) finished third in the 400M dash and 100M hurdles, respectively. Freshman Renee Thompson (Hartford, CT/Weaver) tied for third in the 200M, sophomore Samira Sanders (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) was fourth in the 100M, and senior Katelyn Gannon (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewbury) tied for fifth in the pole vault. On the men's side, freshman Howard Powell (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) turned in a runner-up showing in the 110M hurdles, as his time of 15.14 was just 0.03 shy of the winner. Sophomore Michael Wright (Baldwin, NY/Uniondale) placed fourth in the 100M, while classmate Kyle Greenidge (Dorchester, MA/Newton North) was fourth in the long jump. During the 4x400M relay, Wheaton's quartet came in fourth, as Powell joined sophomores Jonathan Cunha (Lexington, MA/Lexington), Philip Kiley (Medfield, MA/Medfield) and Victor Martinez (Exeter, NH/Phillips Exeter Academy) during the competition. Both Lyon teams return to action next Saturday, as the United States Coast Guard Academy hosts the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships. Individual Wheaton athletes might also attend the University of Pennsylvania Relays this week, which begin on Thursday. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz. Last updated on 5/13/07. |
