NORTON, MA- Wheaton College head women’s soccer coach Luis Reis has been selected for induction into the New England Soccer Hall of Fame, as the 12th-year coach will be honored as one of eight members of the 31st class at the annual banquet on November 1 in East Providence, Rhode Island.

Becoming the second-fastest coach in Division III women’s soccer history to reach the 200-win milestone just over a year ago, Reis entered this fall with the second-highest winning percentage all time among Division III coaches with a minimum of 10 years at the helm. He also stood fourth all time in winning percentage among NCAA coaches and third for active Division III coaches.

As far as overall victories among active Division III women’s coaches are concerned, Reis ranked 12th despite the rest of the top 24 having at least 14 years of experience. He entered this season with an impressive 218-31-8 mark and an .864 winning percentage, and currently boasts a 227-34-8 record, good for an .859 clip.

Reis has built one of the top women’s soccer programs in the nation, leading the Lyons to 11 straight postseason appearances, including eight consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament. Guiding Wheaton to an NCAA Tournament Final Four for the first time in program history in 2004, Reis also directed the Blue and White to consecutive NCAA tourney quarterfinal finishes and regional titles in 2002 and 2003 and a sectional championship in 2004. His 1999 team captured the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament crown.

Reis has experienced unparalleled success in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), compiling a string of nine straight regular season championships and seven tournament titles. Since 2000, his teams have compiled an outstanding 89-game conference unbeaten streak, which is the second-longest such stretch in NCAA soccer history regardless of division or gender. The Lyons have posted an astonishing 109-5-4 all-time mark against NEWMAC schools, including going 84-3-2 in the regular season. Prior to the NEWMAC’s existence, Reis led Wheaton to the 1997 New England Women’s 8 Conference Tournament crown.

Following his teams’ successful seasons have come several individual coaching accolades, as Reis has been named National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) New England Coach of the Year on three occasions. He has also been voted New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) Coach of the Year four times since 1999 and NEWMAC Coach of the Year in three of the last five seasons.

Through 12 games this fall, Reis and the squad are again enjoying a successful run, having gone 9-3 overall and 1-0 in league play. Wheaton is ranked 16th in the country and third in the region and will face homestanding United States Coast Guard Academy in a conference match on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
