Four Lyons earn Pilgrim League Academic All-Conference laurelsMay 6, 2008 NORTON, MA- Four Wheaton College men's lacrosse players qualified for Pilgrim League Academic All-Conference laurels, as senior Chris Hart (Center Harbor, NH/New Hampton School) drew his third accolade while joining three first-time honorees. Hart, a tri-captain, earned an honor all three seasons he played for the Lyons. Sophomore Tim Horan (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) and freshmen Corey Best (Brentwood, TN/Ravenwood) and Peter Buongiorno (Pittsburgh, PA/Winchester Thurston School) each qualified for their initial Pilgrim League Academic All-Conference accolade. Honorees must follow a certain criteria to qualify, including having a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or better upon completion of the 2007 fall semester and participating on the varsity team for the entire season. One of just three seniors on this year's squad, Hart appeared in all 17 games as a defensive midfielder and was penalized only once all spring. He was one of only 10 Lyons to play in every game, becoming a veteran presence for a youthful team that had nine underclassman midfielders after seeing action in five games his first two seasons combined. Despite missing three games, Horan matched his career high with 10 goals and turned in 12 assists at attack. In 14 contests, he drew 12 starts. Horan tallied at least one point in each of his final six games and scored a goal in each of the Lyons' Pilgrim League Tournament games. Best, who was also a member of Wheaton's swimming and diving team during the winter, made seven appearances in the midfield. Best played in four conference games, tallying both of his goals against Norwich University on April 19. A midfielder, Buongiorno saw action in five contests, including three Pilgrim games. Against Norwich, he turned in a pair of helpers and won the only face-off he took all season. Wheaton finished 8-9 overall and 5-2 in the league, tying for second in the Pilgrim standings, its best showing since 1998. The Lyons proceeded to host their first conference tournament game in 10 years, an 11-9 victory over Babson College in the semifinals on April 30, before falling in their first title game since 1996, 9-5 at Springfield College on Saturday.
