Lyons Voted Fourth in Pilgrim Preseason Poll |

Wheaton evens Pilgrim mark thanks to 8-5 win at Massachusetts MaritimeApril 16, 2008 BUZZARDS BAY, MA- Playing in its second road game in as many days, the Wheaton College men's lacrosse team picked up its second victory in its last three contests while evening its Pilgrim League mark with an 8-5 victory over Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Wednesday at Ellis Field. Moving into the fourth and final playoff spot with three league games remaining, the Lyons raised their Pilgrim record to 2-2 and overall mark to 4-8. The Buccaneers dropped to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in league play. Sophomore Tim Horan (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) broke the scoreless stalemate 16 seconds into play and classmate Drew Schaffer (New Haven, CT/Loomis Chaffee School) found the back of the net with 26 ticks left in the opening quarter, as Wheaton carried a 2-0 edge into the first intermission. Massachusetts Maritime sophomore brothers Brian Burke (Del Mar, CA) and Connor Burke (Del Mar, CA) scored 1:03 apart early in the second before Lyon freshman Chris Landers (Manchester, MA/Proctor Academy) tallied with a minute to play in the half for a 3-2 lead. Horan and freshman Duncan Smith (Centerport, NY/Harborfields) each scored during the first 5:36 of the third as the Blue and White extended its advantage to 5-2, and the hosts never got closer than two the rest of the way. The Lyons led 5-3 after three before scoring three of the fourth period's five goals, including the game's final tally from sophomore Connor Compton (Deering, NH/Saint Mark's School) at 2:21. Horan and Smith paced the Wheaton attack with two goals each, while Schaffer tallied once and posted two helpers. Sophomore goalie Schuyler Horn (New Hartford, CT/Kingswood-Oxford School) stopped 12 shots in collecting his fourth win of the season. The Burke brothers played a hand in four of the Buccaneer goals, with Brian scoring twice and assisting once and Connor tallying once and handing out two helpers. Sophomore James Hitchings (Dover, MA) was credited with 15 saves between the pipes.
