Rasamny reaches 100 points before Lyons fall in overtime to visiting Lasell

April 6, 2008

NORTON, MA- Lasell College sophomore Brandon Keith (Marston Mills, MA/Barnstable) scored 24 seconds into overtime to send the Lasers past host Wheaton College, 7-6 on Sunday in Pilgrim League men's lacrosse action in Mirrione Stadium. The Lyons fell to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play, while Lasell is 6-2 and 2-0. During the course of today's contest, Wheaton senior Richie Rasamny (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) became the 12th player in program history to reach the 100-point plateau.

Following the completion of each regulation period, the teams stood tied during a contest in which Wheaton held a narrow 31-28 edge in shots and both squads won eight face-offs. Lasell junior Mike Maggio (Winchester, MA/Winchester) opened a five-goal, six-point day by scoring midway through the opening quarter, only to be matched by Rasamny with 1:41 remaining in the stanza.

In the second, Maggio tallied 1:11 into play before Wheaton freshman Ben Cederberg (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) scored the first of his three goals with 1:59 to go until the horn. Coming out of halftime, Cederberg broke a 2-2 tie 1:39 into the third to give the Lyons their first lead, but Maggio scored again at 10:31.

Freshman Duncan Smith (Centerport, NY/Harborfields) reestablished the host's advantage with 1:27 left in the third on a Cederberg helper, but Lasell countered on junior Derek Allan's (Billerica, MA/Billerica) marker with seven ticks to go.

Rasamny pushed Wheaton to a 5-4 advantage with 10:32 remaining in regulation before Maggio went to work, scoring twice during a 20-second span and handing Lasell a 6-5 edge at 3:27. However, Cederberg knotted the contest just 39 seconds later, as Rasamny notched his 100th point with a helper. After Wheaton was penalized late in regulation, Lasell capitalized at the 3:36 mark of overtime, as Maggio found Keith for the man-up game-winner.

Cederberg recorded his second hat trick of the season to go along with an assist, while Rasamny added two goals and a helper. Sophomore Drew Schaffer (New Haven, CT/Loomis Chaffee School) turned in a pair of assists, while classmate Schuyler Horn (New Hartford, CT/Kingswood-Oxford School) made 16 saves.

Beyond Maggio, Lasell received a goal and two assists from Allan. Senior Mark DeMieri (Seaford, NY/Seaford), who is among the top goalkeepers in Division III, turned aside 14 shots.

Wheaton breaks from conference action to host Roger Williams University on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
