Kohlman's AQ, women's school-record relay leads Wheaton at ECACsMarch 8, 2008 CAMBRIDGE, MA- Freshman Marcus Kohlman (Milton, MA/Milton) reached an NCAA national meet automatic qualifying height in the high jump and a women's school-record relay led the Wheaton College indoor track and field teams at this weekend's two-day Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship. Held at Harvard University's Gordon Indoor Track and Tennis Center, the women took sixth overall with 38 points among 51 scoring teams. The men placed 23rd in a pool of 58 scoring squads. Saint Lawrence University captured the men's title, while Moravian College won the women's meet. In the season's final competition before next weekend's national championship, Kohlman locked up a spot at Ohio Northern University, jumping 6' 10 1/4" while placing second. His performance tied the meet's top height. Sophomore Howard Powell (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) twice reached provisional standards in the 55-meter dash, finishing fourth in the finals in 7.66. Classmate Merzudin Ibric (Revere, MA/Phillips Academy) placed sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time 49.73. On the women's side, Wheaton's 4x880-yard relay captured the event title while shattering an 11-year-old school record in the 4x800-meter relay. Senior Megan Brousseau (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro), juniors Lily Calderwood (Harvard, MA/Bromfield School) and Natana Jules (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls), and sophomore Katie Pratt (Litchfield, CT/Litchfield) comprised the quartet that ran in 9:30.24, which was over three seconds faster than the closest foursome. Junior Chizoba Ezeigwe (Brockton, MA/Thayer Academy) all but assured herself a spot in next weekend's 400-meter dash, as her provisional time of 56.66 won the race and placed her among the fastest 10 runners in the country. She was just 0.31 seconds shy of an automatic standard. Freshmen Diana Kornberg (Highland Mills, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) and Erin Neville (North Providence, RI/La Salle Academy) recorded provisional qualifying marks in the shot put and high jump, respectively. Kornberg was the runner up with a heave of 42' 6 1/4", while Neville finished third at 5' 5 1/4". Junior Morgan Jamiel (Warwick, RI/Toll Gate) rounded out Wheaton's scorers with a fifth-place result in the pentathlon. Jamiel totaled 2,777 points among the seven competitors. Next weekend's two-day NCAA Championship at Ohio Northern in Ada, Ohio, begins on Friday at 12:30 p.m. Wheaton will learn of its entrants sometime on Monday. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz.
