Lyon track teams combine for three event victories at Tufts InvitationalFebruary 2, 2008 MEDFORD, MA- The Wheaton College men's and women's indoor track and field teams combined for three event wins at Tufts University's Gantcher Family Sports & Convocation Center Saturday afternoon, with the women placing fourth and the men taking eighth. The women's 64 points were higher than 10 other schools in a meet won by the host Jumbos, while the men's total of 48 points bettered three Division III teams. Fellow New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) school United States Coast Guard Academy won the team title. Freshman Erin Neville (North Providence, RI/La Salle Academy) captured the high jump event, finishing just two inches short of an NCAA Championship national provisional qualifying standard with a jump of 5' 3". Classmate Laurenmaria Smith (Providence, RI/Hope) played a hand in a trio of top-three marks, taking second in the 200-meter dash with a pair of third-place finishes in the 55M dash and 4x400M relay. Smith anchored the 4x400M relay squad, joining juniors Lily Calderwood (Harvard, MA/Bromfield School), Natana Jules (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) and Celeste Karpow (Wilton, CT/Wilton). Karpow posted a runner-up finish in the 400M dash, while freshman Diana Kornberg (Highland Mills, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) took second in the shot put. Senior Megan Brousseau (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) placed third in the mile run, coming within 1.92 seconds of a national meet provisional qualifying time at 5:06.92. Junior Morgan Jamiel (Warwick, RI/Toll Gate) rounded out the top-five placements by finishing fourth in the 55M hurdles. Junior Kyle Greenidge (Dorchester, MA/Newton North) and sophomore Howard Powell (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) won event titles in the triple jump and 55-meter hurdles, respectively. Greenidge bested the closest competitor by over 15 inches, as his leap of 45' 6 1/2" was 4 3/4 inches short of an NCAA Championship provisional qualifying distance. Powell matched his school mark in the 55M hurdles, finishing in 7.76, which came within 0.01 seconds of a provisional qualifier. Freshman Marcus Kohlman (Milton, MA/Milton) complemented Greenidge's strong field performance by taking second in the high jump. Kohlman cleared the bar at 6' 5", which was two inches short of the provisional qualifying mark. Classmate Mark Williamson (Vienna, VA/James Madison) turned in a runner-up placement in the 200M dash, junior Albi Skenderi (Glendale, NY/Grover Cleveland) recorded a fourth-place finish in the 55M hurdles and freshman Raiyan Banaji (Bombay, India/American School of Bombay) took fifth in the 55M dash.
