Ezeigwe extends Wheaton's ECAC awards streak to five weeks

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College women's indoor track and field standout Chizoba Ezeigwe (Brockton, MA/Thayer Academy) corralled an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Track Co-Athlete-of-the-Week honor for the week ending on Sunday, February 4.

Ezeigwe also earned co-athlete-of-the-week laurels on January 24 in what has become a five-week run of at least one male or female Lyon earning an ECAC accolade. Ezeigwe shared this week's award with Williams College junior Maddie Outman.

A sophomore All-American, Ezeigwe helped the 4x400-meter relay team to the fastest time in the nation this season at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational in the New York City Armory over the weekend. The 4x400M foursome's 3:51.91 finish eclipsed the automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Championship and bested the same quartet from Lincoln University that won the 2006 NCAA indoor crown.

Ezeigwe also completed the 400-meter dash in 57.29, which was a provisional qualifier for the national meet and the fastest time in New England this season, before running the top 200M time in New England this season at 25.88. She now has the top 55M, 200M and 400M times in the region and also ran a leg for the top 4x200M relay foursome.

Both of the Lyon teams return to action on Friday at the two-day Valentine Invitational at Boston University.
