Lyons set to send five women to NCAA Track and Field Championship

March 7, 2005

NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College women's track and field team, winners of five successive indoor national titles from 1999-2003, is set to send five of its athletes to this weekend's NCAA Division III Championship held at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois, beginning on Friday, March 11 at 10:30 a.m.

Eleventh-year head coach Paul Souza will have a pair of high jumpers and a 4x400-meter relay team in the meet. Senior captain Kathrine Wallace (Glenmoore, PA/The Hill School) enters the championship as one of the favorites in the high jump, as she is currently second on the entry list with an impressive mark of 5' 7 3/4", set at the United States Track & Field (USATF) New England Championship at Harvard University on Sunday, February 20.

Sophomore Jennifer Harlow (East Bridgewater, MA/East Bridgewater), who finished in a tie for second in the high jump at last spring's outdoor national championship, will look to return to All-America form after posting a personal-best height of 5' 6" at the Dartmouth Relays on Sunday, January 9. Harlow's highlight of the season came just two weekends ago, when she captured the All New England Championship high jump title at Boston University, topping the field from NCAA Divisions I, II and III with a jump of 5' 5 3/4".

Wallace will also run a leg in Wheaton's 4x400-meter relay event, joining senior captain Jessica Allegra (East Hampton, CT/East Hampton) and first-year athletes Julie McLane (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) and Chelsea Nader (Ardmore, PA/Lower Menan). The foursome made the cut after running 3:55.89 at BU's All New England Championship on Saturday, February 26. Wheaton's 4x400M has traditionally had a stronghold at past indoor national championships, capturing the relay title in five of the last seven seasons.
