James named Female New England Collegiate Track & Field Athlete of the WeekFebruary 17, 2004 NORTON, MA- The New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) honored Wheaton College women's indoor track and field standout Amber James (Woodbury, MN/Woodbury) as the Division III Female New England Collegiate Track & Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, February 15. James continued to shine in the 400-meter dash at Boston University's Valentine Invitational over the weekend, as the 14-time national champion posted the fastest NCAA Division III time in the country with a blazing mark of 54.48 at BU's Track and Tennis Center. Shattering her school record of 55.01 set earlier this season, James yet again posted a national meet automatic qualifying standard with the top collegiate finish. James was also a mere eight-hundredths of a second away from qualifying for the 2004 USA Indoor Track & Field Championship that is to be held at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston later this month. In addition to the 400M event, she anchored Wheaton's provisional-qualifying 4x400-meter relay team with a time of 3:55.33. James rounded out her impressive meet with an eighth-place standing in the 55-meter dash in 7.38. The reigning five-time national champion women will be back in action on Sunday, February 22 at the USATF New England Championship at Harvard, beginning at 11:00 a.m. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz.
