Women take ninth as Lyons finish indoor season at NCAA Championship

TERRE HAUTE, IN- Six Wheaton College men's and women's indoor track and field athletes recorded All-America finishes as the Lyon teams finished competition at the 2007 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championship in Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology's Sports and Recreation Center on Saturday.

Wheaton's women came in ninth out of 56 scoring teams with 19 points, notching their best finish since placing second in 2004. The Lyon men were 22nd of 57 schools with seven points after tying for 22nd in 2006. The Lincoln University men tallied 59 points to win, while the Williams College women had 42 points during their first-place showing.

Sophomore Chizoba Ezeigwe (Brockton, MA/Thayer Academy) twice recorded All-America honors on Saturday, including helping the 4x400-meter relay quartet to a third-place showing. Ezeigwe joined sophomore Natana Jules (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) and freshmen Kamia Smith (Cincinnati, OH/Cincinnati Country Day School) and Renee Thompson (Hartford, CT/Weaver) for a time of 3:52.48, coming within 0.31 seconds of first.

Ezeigwe also placed sixth in the 400-meter dash in a time of 57.76 after earning All-America accolades in the event as a freshman. Senior Jennifer Harlow (East Bridgewater, MA/East Bridgewater) also scored for the Lyons, winning the high jump competition on Friday for the second straight year.

Two Wheaton men were All-Americans in the 400-meter dash, as sophomore Jonathan Cunha (Lexington, MA/Lexington) was fifth in 49.02 and freshman Merzudin Ibric (Revere, MA/Phillips Academy) came in sixth with a time of 49.18. Cunha was also an All-American in the event as a freshman.

Both Lyon teams begin their outdoor seasons at the Carolina Classic in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Saturday.
