Pair of Harlow NCAA qualifying standards leads Lyons at USATF New England Championship, sprinters carry men at Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, MA- Senior All-American Jennifer Harlow (East Bridgewater, MA/East Bridgewater) turned in two NCAA qualifying standards at the USATF New England Championship Sunday, including matching her nation's highest jump at Harvard University's Gordon Indoor Track and Tennis Center.

Harlow's jump of 5' 8" tied her for second with a Harvard athlete as the top collegians at the meet, while surpassing an NCAA national meet automatic qualifying standard. She also won the 60-meter hurdles event with a provisional qualifying time of 9.01, besting the closest college competitor by 0.61 seconds. Wheaton had four athletes finish among the top seven in the event, as sophomores Morgan Jamiel (Warwick, RI/Toll Gate) and Christine Moreau (Lincoln, RI/Lincoln) and freshman Brittany Pierce (Andover, MA/Andover) took the fifth through seventh spots, respectively.

Sophomore All-American Chizoba Ezeigwe (Brockton, MA/Thayer Academy) placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.14, while freshmen Renee Thompson (Hartford, CT/Weaver) and Kamia Smith (Cincinnati, OH/Cincinnati Country Day School) came in eighth and ninth, respectively.

Sophomores Lily Calderwood (Harvard, MA/Bromfield School) and Natana Jules (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) rounded out the top 10 in the track events, with Jules placing ninth in the 800-meter run and Calderwood 10th in the 400-meter dash.

In the field events, sophomore Ashley Mills (Hingham, MA/Hingham) collected a fourth-place result in the shot put. First-year Amy LaPere (Westerly, RI/Westerly) stood seventh in the triple jump, and Pierce took 10th.

Sophomore All-American Michael Wright (Baldwin, NY/Uniondale) came within 0.01 seconds of provisionally qualifying for the NCAA meet in the 60-meter dash, as his time of 6.97 converted to a 55M time of 6.49, which was also 0.01 ticks off his school mark. He placed second in that event and fourth in the 200M dash in 22.17.

Freshman Merzudin Ibric (Revere, MA/Phillips Academy) finished just ahead of Wright in the 200M, also at 22.17. Classmate Mark Cimino (Danbury, CT/Danbury) placed fourth and eighth in the 60- and 200-meter events, respectively, while sophomore All-American Jonathan Cunha (Lexington, MA/Lexington) took fourth in the 60M hurdles and sixth in the 200M dash.

Freshman Howard Powell (Brooklyn, NY/Boys and Girls) was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles and seventh in the 400-meter dash, while junior Pat Benson (Foxboro, MA/Bishop Feehan) accounted for a ninth-place standing in the 3,000-meter run. Sophomore Kyle Greenidge (Dorchester, MA/Newton North) placed seventh in each the long and triple jump events.

The Lyons will return to action next weekend for the two-day All New England Championship at Boston University. Returning to BU for the second time in three weekends, the meet is scheduled to begin on Friday at 10:00 a.m.
