Wheaton's Wright garners ECAC track honor for second straight week

January 17, 2007

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's indoor track and field standout Michael Wright (Baldwin, NY/Uniondale) drew Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Track Athlete-of-the-Week honors for the week ending on Sunday, January 14, marking the second straight week in which he earned ECAC accolades.

Wright, a sophomore All-American, won a pair of events over the weekend at the Tufts Invitational, as he set a school record while also reaching an NCAA Championship provisional qualifying standard. Wright's time of 6.48 in the 55-meter dash bettered the school mark he set last weekend by 0.01 seconds and provisionally qualified him for nationals. His time was 0.23 seconds better than the closest Division III competitor and was the second-fastest 55M dash time in New England this season. In the 200M event, he completed the race in 22.43, which was 0.17 ticks ahead of the next finisher, and 0.43 seconds ahead of the next Division III runner.

The Lyons continue their season on Saturday at the University of Rhode Island's Sorlien Invitational, which begins at 12:00 p.m.
