Pair of freshmen 400-meter sprinters highlight Wheaton's performances at indoor national championshipMarch 10, 2006 NORTHFIELD, MN- A pair of freshmen 400-meter sprinters advanced to Saturday's NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship finals, as Chizoba Ezeigwe (Brockton, MA/Thayer Academy) and Jonathan Cunha (Lexington, MA/Lexington) posted the second- and sixth-fastest times, respectively, at Saint Olaf College's Tostrud Center. Ezeigwe, who entered the competition with the nation's fastest 400M time, is just one of two freshmen in tomorrow's field following her 57.25 performance, while Cunha is the lone underclassman in Saturday's final at 48.96. Guaranteed All-America status, the first-year tandem is also slated to run a leg in their respective 4x400-meter relays. Senior captain Ajay Sisodia (Andover, MA/Andover) also ran in today's 400-meter dash, finishing second in his heat with a time of 49.46. Sisodia, who returned to the national stage following an All-America finish his sophomore season, will get another chance during tomorrow's 4x400M relay. Rounding out today's list of Wheaton competitors was junior Jennifer Harlow (East Bridgewater, MA/East Bridgewater). Harlow placed sixth in her 55-meter hurdles heat in 8.43, which was 0.01 seconds faster than her qualifying time set last weekend. Harlow, who enters Saturday's high jump event having matched the nation's top height at 5' 7 1/4", looks to better her fifth-place finish from a year ago. Tomorrow's schedule of events begins at 10:00 a.m., with Wheaton's first competition in the high jump set for 3:00 p.m. The men's 400-meter dash is set to go off at 5:15 p.m., while the women's 400M event is slated for a 5:25 p.m. start. The men's and women's 4x400M relays cap the two-day championship at 7:40 p.m. and 7:55 p.m., respectively. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz. Last updated on 1/30/07. |
