School records highlight Wheaton's weekend track and field resultsMarch 4, 2006 Three school records were met and junior Jennifer Harlow (East Bridgewater, MA/East Bridgewater) won a pair of events as the Wheaton College men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the non-scoring Last Chance Qualifier at Yale University's Coxe Cage on Friday evening in New Haven, Connecticut. The Lyon men then broke a school mark in the 4x400-meter relay and automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship during Saturday's IC4A Championship in Boston University's Track and Tennis Center. Leading the Wheaton women was Harlow with a 55-meter hurdles victory and high jump triumph. Harlow's 8.44 finish in the 55M hurdles set a personal best, provisionally qualified her for the NCAA meet and was just 0.19 seconds off an automatic time for the national championship. The All-American's jump of 5' 6" marked the eighth time in nine meets this winter that she met at least provisional qualification for the NCAA Championship. The Lyons' distance medley relay team smashed the four-year-old school mark by 4.46 seconds, as senior Kendra Leith (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional), sophomore Megan Brousseau (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro), and freshmen Lily Calderwood (Harvard, MA/Bromfield School) and Chizoba Ezeigwe (Brockton, MA/Thayer Academy) met provisional qualification for the national meet with a time of 12:04.89, winning by just 0.25 seconds. A pair of athletes picked up fifth-place finishes, as sophomore Joell Whitley (Magnolia, NJ/Triton Regional) turned in a long jump distance of 16' 5 1/2" during her first competition of the year, and freshman Morgan Jamiel (Warwick, RI/Toll Gate) notched a season-best time of 8.87 during the finals of the 55-meter hurdles. During the men's competition on Friday, freshman Michael Wright (Baldwin, NY/Uniondale) matched the school record he set on January 20 with a 6.50 finish to cap a second-place showing in the 55-meter dash finals. The time allowed Wright to meet provisional NCAA qualification for the second time this winter. On Saturday, Wright joined senior Ajay Sisodia (Andover, MA/Andover) and freshmen Jonathan Cunha (Lexington, MA/Lexington) and Victor Martinez (Exeter, NH/Phillips Exeter Academy) as the 4x400-meter relay team broke the school mark it set last weekend and automatically qualified for the NCAA meet. The Lyons shaved 2.89 ticks off the program standard and finished its trials heat in 3:13.31. Sisodia was the top Division III athlete in the 400-meter dash, which he finished in 48.48 to provisionally qualify for the national meet. Next weekend, qualifiers from both of Wheaton's indoor track and field teams will compete in the NCAA Division III Championship, hosted by Saint Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota.
