Women's relay takes second at 96th annual Millrose Games; Men's 4x400-meter relay team finishes fourth overall

NEW YORK, NY- The Wheaton College men's and women's track and field teams sent eight athletes to the 96th annual Verizon Millrose Games Friday night at Madison Square Garden. Both teams were represented by their 4x400-meter relay squads in the prestigious event.

The women's 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of juniors Amber James (Woodbury, MN/Woodbury) and Vernick Smith (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson) and first-year athletes Oly Wirtz (Fitchburg, MA/Fitchburg) and Aquila Williams-Judge (Boston, MA/Scituate), were very impressive against four Division I institutions and one Division II school. The Lyons finished second to Seton Hall University with a NCAA Division III national meet provisional qualifying time of 3:57.81.

The men's 4x400-meter relay team also competed against four Division I schools and one Division II college. Comprised of juniors Erik Benson (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) and Tyrone McClain (New Haven, CT/Hillhouse), sophomore Adam Walker (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) and freshman Ajay Sisodia (Andover, MA/Andover), the squad finished in fourth place with a time of 3:33.29. Albany won the event in 3:28.30.

Regarded as the nation's greatest indoor track meet, the Millrose Games has been a sporting fixture in New York City since 1908. Held annually since 1914, Millrose Games is the longest running sport event in Madison Square Garden history. In all, 87 world indoor records have been set or equaled and 117 Millrose Winners have been Olympic Champions. The Millrose Games is part of the prestigious USA Track & Field "Golden Spike Tour".
