February 5, 2003

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College men's indoor track and field standout, Erik Benson (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) garnered Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Track Athlete-of-the-Week laurels for the second time this season.

A junior captain with the Lyons, Benson had a monster day for the host team at the seventh annual Wheaton Invitational Saturday afternoon in Beard Field House. In addition to posting a pair of individual event championships on the day, he helped Wheaton's 4x400-meter relay team to a first-place finish with a time of 3:26.83.

Leading his team to a second-place finish with 97 points among ten competing schools, Benson captured the 200 and 600-meter dash events with times of 22.56 and 1:22.72, respectively. In the field, he also finished 11th overall in the shot put.

Benson will look to lead the Lyons this Saturday, February 8, when the men's and women's indoor track and field squads travel to Medford for the Tufts Invitational at 9:00 a.m.
