Dimick breaks points record, Ryalls tallies winner on Senior DayOctober 20, 2007 NORTON, MA- Senior Sara Dimick (Cumberland, ME/Greely) broke the Wheaton College field hockey program's career points mark, and classmate Lyndsie Ryalls (Branford, CT/Branford) had the game-winner as the Blue and White downed New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) counterpart Mount Holyoke College, 2-0 on Saturday during Senior Day at Clark Field. Dimick's 49th-minute tally gave her 101 career points, eclipsing Maureen Reynolds' '88 former standard of 100. Wheaton improved to 11-5 overall and 5-2 in the league, while Mount Holyoke fell to 6-8 and 3-4. The Blue and White locked up a home playoff game with the victory. Ryalls gave Wheaton a quick lead less than three minutes into the contest. An initial shot off Ryalls' stick was stopped by junior keeper Allie Walsh (Ann Arbor, MI/Greenhills School), who slid in to stuff the attempt, but Ryalls got her own rebound and lifted the ball past Walsh at 2:32. It was the senior's third goal of the season, and her first game-winner. Ryalls nearly made it 2-0 with less than three minutes to go in the half, but her shot was pushed wide right. Despite holding just a one-goal edge at halftime, the hosts controlled the first half on paper behind advantages of 11-0 in shots and 7-0 in penalty corners. Walsh kept her Lyons in the game early in the second period, as she stopped consecutive point-blank attempts by Wheaton freshman Ashley English (Watertown, MA/Watertown) and senior Ashley Miller (East Bridgewater, MA/East Bridgewater) following a 41st-minute penalty corner. Dimick pushed her tally past Walsh after carrying into the middle of the circle, crossing to junior Alisa Ardito (Branford, CT/Branford) and touching in Ardito's pass to the doorstep at 48:44. The marker was Dimick's 15th, and she became the first Wheaton player with two 40-point seasons. For the game, Wheaton outshot Mount Holyoke, 24-0 and had a 15-5 corners edge. Freshman Cameron Abel (Windham, NH/Salem) went untested in recording her third shutout and 11th win of the season, while Walsh finished with 15 saves. Wheaton completes its regular season slate against Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on Tuesday. The teams square off on Clark Field at 4:00 p.m. SCORING: 1st 2nd Final 1st Half: WC- Lyndsie Ryalls (unassisted) 2:32 2nd Half: WC- Sara Dimick (Alisa Ardito) 48:44 Goalie Saves: WC- Cameron Abel 0; MHC- Allie Walsh 15 Shots: WC- 24; MHC- 0 This page is maintained by Scott Dietz.
