Ardito earns first career NEWMAC Player-of-the-Week accolade

October 15, 2007

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College field hockey standout Alisa Ardito (Branford, CT/Branford) drew the first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player-of-the-Week honor of her career for the week ending on Sunday, October 14. She became the first Lyon to receive the accolade this season.

The junior forward helped the Blue and White go 2-0 last week, including an upset over nationally-ranked Springfield College, by scoring the game-winning goal in each contest. During Wheaton's 6-1 win over Clark University on Tuesday, Ardito sent home the eventual winner in the fifth minute of action before scoring in the 12th minute in the Lyons' 2-1 victory against the Pride. Springfield is ranked 12th nationally and won the past three NEWMAC Tournaments.

Of Ardito's nine goals this fall, five have been game-winners. Her point (24) and assist (6) totals both tie Ardito for seventh in a single season in program history. She stands second on the squad for each goals, assists and points while having started all 14 contests.

Wheaton has scored 46 goals this fall, second in school annals only to the 2006 team's 59 markers, while going 10-4 overall and 4-1 in league play. This season marks the first since 1987 that the Lyons have followed up a 10-win season with another the following year.

Ardito leads Wheaton back into action tomorrow at league co-leader Wellesley College. The third-place Lyons square off with the Blue beginning at 3:30 p.m.
