Dimick, Strock net two apiece in 6-1 NEWMAC win over Clark

October 9, 2007

NORTON, MA- Senior Sara Dimick (Cumberland, ME/Greely) had two goals and an assist, while freshman Jessica Strock (Centerville, MA/Barnstable) recorded her first collegiate two-goal game as Wheaton College knocked off Clark University, 6-1 on Tuesday in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey action at Clark Field. After hosting only one game in the last month, this was the first of four that Wheaton will play in Norton over the final two weeks of the regular season. The Lyons are now 9-4 overall and 3-1 in the league, while the Cougars fell to 5-7 and 0-4.

Wheaton nabbed a 2-0 lead after fewer than five minutes had elapsed, as Dimick's cross from the right endline was redirected into the center of the net by Strock at 4:23. Just 28 seconds later, junior Alisa Ardito (Branford, CT/Branford) took a blast from just inside the circle on the right wing that made it a two-goal game.

During the 12th minute, senior Kim Anson (Washington, CT/Shepaug Valley) sent a pass into the left side of the circle that was deflected by Strock past charging sophomore keeper Kathryn Dawsey (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) and into the lower right corner of the goal. Freshman Haley Chrisos (Beverly, MA/Bishop Fenwick) made it 4-0 heading into halftime by knocking in a loose ball off a scrum in the 28th minute.

In the second frame, Dimick tallied twice off of individual efforts. She scored first at 37:15 and then again at 45:24. With time expired at the end of regulation, Clark junior Madeleine Henefield (Pelham, MA/Amherst Regional) tipped in sophomore Chelsea Proulx's (Franklin, NH/Bishop Brady) penalty-corner pass.

Dimick now has 98 career points, just two shy of the program's 20-year-old record, held by Maureen Reynolds '88. With 37 points this year, she has the third-highest single-season total in Wheaton history, while her 14 goals are fourth. Ardito's goal was the 21st of her career, tying her for fifth in program history.

Freshman Cameron Abel (Windham, NH/Salem) made one first-half save for the Lyons, while sophomore Andrea Bagley (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) stopped four shots in the second stanza. Dawsey turned aside nine shots during nearly 30 minutes of action, and freshman Katelyn McGrath (Wilmington, MA/Wilmington) made 10 saves in relief. The Lyons finished with advantages of 30-9 in shots and 16-5 in penalty corners.

Wheaton hosts 2006 NEWMAC Tournament champion Springfield College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
