Dimick's overtime winner leads Lyons past Wesleyan, 3-2September 26, 2007 NORTON, MA- Senior Sara Dimick (Cumberland, ME/Greely) played a hand in all three goals and netted her second overtime winner of the season on Wednesday afternoon, sending Wheaton College past Wesleyan University, 3-2 in non-conference field hockey action on Clark Field. The Lyons improved to 7-3, while the Cardinals are 1-4. The victory marked Wheaton's first over Wesleyan in Norton since October 5, 1995. Dimick had Wheaton's best opportunity in the first 50-plus minutes of regulation, turning around inside the circle to take a quick shot that sailed just wide left in the seventh minute of play. Wesleyan netted the go-ahead marker nearly six minutes later, as junior Stephanie Brodsky (Wilton, CT/Wilton) tracked down a ball right in front of Wheaton freshman keeper Cameron Abel (Windham, NH/Salem) and sent a pass across the circle to senior Amanda Nickels (Wilder, VT/Hartford). Nickels scored on the open net with 13:09 gone. A little more than five minutes after halftime, Cardinal freshman Allie Lynch's (Greenwich, CT/Rye Country Day School) long hit into the circle was tipped by senior Adrienne Shea (Andover, MA/Andover) to freshman Alex Bean (Milton, MA/Milton Academy), whose subsequent tip sent the ball into the back of the cage. Wheaton began to come back during the 52nd minute, as junior Alisa Ardito's (Branford, CT/Branford) pass was tipped home by Dimick. With time dwindling in regulation, Ardito's initial shot off a penalty corner was blocked, but the ball made its way to Dimick, who found sophomore Alex Block (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) for a marker with no time on the clock. Midway through overtime, Ardito and Dimick charged in on a breakaway, but Dimick's shot was pushed wide. The duo atoned with 3:25 left, as Ardito's entry pass off a penalty corner was to Dimick, who dribbled past a defender before driving a shot from 10 yards out into the cage. Abel finished with five saves, while sophomore Breen McDonald (Shaker Heights, OH/Hathaway Brown School) turned aside three shots. Wheaton finished with advantages of 10-8 in shots and 10-9 in penalty corners, as the Lyons recorded the only two shots in overtime but yielded a 3-1 corners advantage to the Cardinals. With her two-goal, one-assist day, Dimick moved alone into second in program history with 20 career assists and is also second in each points (84) and goals (32). Ardito's two helpers pushed her into fourth for assists (18) and into a tie for fourth in points (54).
