Dimick, Lyons push past Lasell, 2-0 in non-conference field hockey action

September 15, 2007

NEWTON, MA- Senior Sara Dimick (Cumberland, ME/Greely) played a hand in both goals, and the Wheaton College field hockey team picked up a 2-0 non-conference victory over Lasell College on Saturday at Grellier Field. The Lyons are now 5-2, while the Lasers fell to 1-4.

During a first half in which Wheaton held advantages of 13-2 in shots and 7-0 in penalty corners, the Lyons were held off the board until Dimick took the ball from midfield, carried into the circle and scored with six seconds remaining. It was her seventh goal of the season.

In the second stanza, the Lyons tallied off a direct corner with a little less than eight minutes left, as junior Alisa Ardito (Branford, CT/Branford) blasted home her fourth marker of the fall. Dimick and sophomore Alex Block (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) provided helpers.

Wheaton ended up outshooting the Lasers, 20-5 and recording a 10-1 advantage in penalty corners. Freshman Cameron Abel (Windham, NH/Salem) made one first-half save in picking up the win, while sophomore Andrea Bagley (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) stopped three shots in a shutout second stanza. Sophomore back Cassie Abel (Windham, NH/Salem) tallied a defensive save during the opening half.

Senior Laura Gallagher (Westwood, MA/Westwood) had 10 saves for Lasell, while classmate Rachael Johnson (Litchfield, CT/Litchfield) made a defensive save.
