Lyons move to 3-0 for second straight season, down visiting SimmonsSeptember 6, 2007 NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College field hockey team improved to 3-0 for the second straight season behind a 2-0 blanking of Simmons College on Thursday in non-conference action at Clark Field. The Lyons have now won 12 of their last 14 home games and dropped the Sharks to 1-1 this fall. The Lyons gained the majority of opportunities in the opening half, holding a 14-1 advantage in shots and 7-1 edge in penalty corners, but did not break through until late. With less than nine minutes remaining, senior Sara Dimick (Cumberland, ME/Greely) dribbled through the defense and took a shot from the left side of the cage that rolled toward goal, and junior Alisa Ardito (Branford, CT/Branford) picked the ball up at the right post before sending home her third goal of the year at 8:43. Ardito's goal proved to be all Wheaton would need, and sophomore Alex Block (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) added an insurance tally with 7:32 left in the game. Ardito's shot from the right side was knocked down by junior keeper Cammy Keiler (Minot, ME/Mount Blue), and Block found the ball at the left post before depositing her first marker of the season. For the game, Wheaton outshot the Sharks, 22-3 and held a 13-2 advantage in penalty corners. Freshman Cameron Abel (Windham, NH/Salem) notched her first collegiate shutout behind a two-save performance, while Keiler turned aside nine shots. Wheaton hits the road for the first time this season when it faces Endicott College in a rematch of last season's Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament title game on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. SCORING: 1st 2nd Final 1st Half: WC- Alisa Ardito (Sara Dimick) 8:43 2nd Half: WC- Alex Block (unassisted) 7:32 Goalie Saves: WC- Cameron Abel 2; SC- Cammy Keiler 9 Shots: WC- 22; SC- 3 This page is maintained by Scott Dietz.
