Lyons shatter program scoring mark with 13-0 shutout of Regis

September 1, 2007

NORTON, MA- Four Wheaton College field hockey players tallied at least six points Saturday afternoon, and the Lyons shattered the program scoring mark by blanking Regis College, 13-0 at Clark Field. Wheaton picked up its second win in as many days to improve to 2-0, while the Pride opened its season this afternoon.

Matching last year's scoring record of nine goals in the first half alone, the hosts were led by junior Alisa Ardito (Branford, CT/Branford), who had a hand in five of Wheaton's first nine tallies for a total of seven points. Ardito assisted the first two scores in the fifth and 10th minutes, as senior Ashley Miller (East Bridgewater, MA/East Bridgewater) and freshman Julia Atwood (Concord, MA/Brooks School) tallied their first collegiate goals.

Atwood and first-year Haley Chrisos (Beverly, MA/Bishop Fenwick), who tied three others for the program mark of four goals in a game, recorded unassisted markers to make the score 4-0 nearly 14 minutes into play. Ardito and Chrisos added two tallies apiece, while freshman Margaux Bolte (Belmont, MA/Belmont) scored her first collegiate goal to round out the first-half scoring.

Ryalls, whose first point didn't come until with 6:21 to go in the first half, joined Ardito in matching the program's single-game assist mark with three each. Ryalls provided Atwood and Chrisos with successful scoring chances to open the second half before scoring twice during a 3:49 stretch to close out the scoring. Chrisos finished with eight points on the day, Ardito and Ryalls each had seven, and Atwood turned in six thanks to her hat trick.

Freshman Cameron Abel (Windham, NH/Salem) picked up her second win in the cage by playing 35 minutes, while sophomore goalkeeper Andrea Bagley (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) saw her first action in a Wheaton field hockey uniform in relief. For Regis, junior Kristen Tavares (Acushnet, MA/New Bedford) amassed 22 stops on the Lyons' 51 shots, while sophomore Elizabeth Kluchnick (Intervale, NH/Kennett) was credited with two defensive saves.

Wheaton finishes its three-game homestand on Thursday with a 4:30 p.m. game against Simmons College.
