Dimick earns All-America field hockey laurels from NFHCA

November 20, 2006

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College field hockey standout Sara Dimick (Cumberland, ME/Greely) capped a record-breaking campaign by earning National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III All-America second team honors.

The junior forward was one of 16 second squad members and among 48 honored on the three teams from around the country. Dimick was one of four New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) players to draw All-America accolades, and one of eight players from a New England school named to one of the top two teams.

Dimick's honor comes a week after being named to the NFHCA All-Region first team following a breakout junior season, one in which she broke schools records for points (47) and assists (11) while tallying the most goals (18) by a Wheaton player in 19 years. She led the Lyons with six game-winning markers, as her squad went 15-2 when she posted at least one point.

Dimick also received NEWMAC All-Conference first team honors, becoming the first Lyon to do so since 2003 after leading all league players in regular season points and assists while placing second in goals. During the postseason, Wheaton advanced to its first NEWMAC Tournament semifinal contest and qualified for its first Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament championship game. At 15-8, the Lyons broke the program standard of 13 wins. Dimick also keyed an offense that scored a school-record 59 times and was never shut out.

As a sophomore midfielder in 2005, Dimick drew regional accolades from the NFHCA and all-conference honors from the NEWMAC, and she entered her third year in Blue and White with five goals, four assists and 14 points in 36 career games. Entering her senior season, she is now second at Wheaton in each career points (61) and goals (23), as well as third in assists (15).
