Wheaton's Clarke selected to compete in NFHCA Senior All-Star game

November 13, 2006

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College field hockey senior Shea Clarke (Bellingham, MA/Bellingham) has been chosen to compete in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Senior All-Star game on Saturday at William Smith College in Geneva, New York. The contest is slated for a 9:30 a.m. start. Clarke was among 38 players selected to participate, including eight from New England and three from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).

As one of Wheaton's co-captains, Clarke provided stability in the backfield by starting all 22 games in which she appeared. Clarke tied for second on the team with 10 assists, which also was good for second in program history, while tying for fourth among the Lyons with 18 points. In addition to tallying two game-winning goals, Clarke assisted on four go-ahead tallies, two of which stood as game-winners.

After producing one goal and three assists during her first dozen games while making a transition from the midfield, Clarke finished her career with an offensive flourish. She posted at least one point in seven of her final 10 games, recording three goals and seven helpers.

Clarke will graduate first in program history for each career assists (21) and games played (78). During her career, Clarke appeared in all but one of a possible 79 games while drawing 75 starts in either the midfield or backfield. An NFHCA National Academic team selection as a sophomore and junior, Clarke earned her first NFHCA All-Region honor this fall.

Clarke aided a record-setting Wheaton offense that scored 59 times, shattering the 1987 school record of 44. The Lyons finished 15-8, setting a program standard for victories.
