ECAC DIVISION III FIELD HOCKEY TOURNAMENT - Wheaton falls to Endicott, 2-1 in overtime during first title tiltNovember 12, 2006 SALEM, MA--- The Wheaton College field hockey team's season came to an end on Sunday, as the second-seeded Lyons fell to number one Endicott College, 2-1 in overtime during the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament championship game on Salem State College's Alumni Field. In its first ECAC title game, the Blue and White completed the winningest season in program history with a 15-8 record. The Gulls, who fell by a 2-1 count against the Lyons on September 9, ended the season at 16-5 with their first ECAC crown. The Gulls, who were scheduled to host the contest before inclement weather forced a location change, tallied the first goal in the 28th minute. Following a Wheaton penalty corner, Endicott gained possession and started a two-on-one break. Senior Lindsay Fallon (Southampton, NY/Southampton) sent a shot past Lyon senior keeper Mary Catherine Boll (Columbus, IN/Miss Porter's School) for her 18th goal despite freshman back Andria Laroche's (Skowhegan, ME/Skowhegan Area) diving attempt at a defensive save. Early in the second half, senior Shea Clarke (Bellingham, MA/Bellingham) nearly put the Lyons on the board, but her penalty stroke was turned aside by senior keeper Erin Curry (Hampstead, NH/Gould Academy). However, Clarke contributed to the game-tying goal less than 10 minutes into the stanza, as she ripped a free hit from just outside the circle that freshman Alex Block (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) tipped in for her seventh marker. Shortly after the teams went to overtime, the Gulls sent in the game-winning tally. Clarke blocked an initial shot off a penalty corner, but senior Caitlin Murray (Templeton, MA/Gardner) passed to junior Ashley Meunier (Hartland, VT/Kimball Union Academy) off the rebound for the winner at the 72:16 mark. Endicott outshot the Lyons, 12-6, while the Blue and White held a 5-3 edge in penalty corners. Boll finished with six saves, and Curry had four.
