Three Wheaton field hockey players earn NEWMAC All-Conference nods

November 7, 2006

WORCESTER, MA- Three Wheaton College field hockey players were voted to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference teams Tuesday at the postseason meeting held at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). The only other time three Lyons were named all-league was in 1988, when Wheaton was a member of the New England Women's 8 (NEW 8).

Junior Sara Dimick (Cumberland, ME/Greely) led the way with Wheaton's initial first-team selection since 2003, while classmate Lyndsie Ryalls (Branford, CT/Branford) and sophomore Alisa Ardito (Branford, CT/Branford) were each named to the second team. Dimick and Ryalls had each previously been named to an all-conference second team in 2005 and 2004, respectively.

Dimick, who moved from the midfield to center forward this season, finished as the conference's regular season leader in both points and assists while placing second in goals. She provided seven go-ahead goals, five of which stood as the game-winner, while adding four game-winning assists. Including her postseason numbers, Dimick shattered the school's single-season assists record of seven with 11 thus far this fall, and her 45 points and 17 goals are one and four shy, respectively, of matching the program's single-season records. Dimick has had a point in 16 of 21 games, during which time the Lyons are 14-2. She is second at Wheaton in career points (59), tied for second in goals (22) and third in assists (15).

Ryalls provided a veteran presence as an overshadowed contributor up front. She's tied for third on the team in goals (6) and sits fourth in each points (18) and assists (6). She has scored five goals that either tied the game or gave Wheaton a lead, two of which stood as game-winners. Ryalls also assisted on a game-winning tally for the Lyons. She's currently tied for second in program history for career goals (22), third in points (57) and tied for fourth in assists (13).

Also an attacker, Ardito drew her first collegiate conference honor. She finished the regular season second in the league in assists and notched at least one point in eight of the last nine regular season games. After tallying eight goals and 19 points as a freshman, she moved to right forward and has turned in five goals, 10 assists and 20 points. Four of her assists have led to goals that either won or tied the game, and her game-winning goal during Wheaton's NEWMAC Tournament opening round game with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) led the Lyons to their first conference tournament win since 1997. She is tied for fourth at Wheaton with 13 career helpers.

With a school-record win total, the 14-7 Lyons will participate in their first Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament since 1995 this weekend. The second-seeded Blue and White hosts number three Western New England College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., and a victory would send Wheaton into Sunday's title tilt on the field of the highest remaining seed.
