Dimick becomes third Lyon to earn NEWMAC field hockey honors

October 23, 2006

NORTON, MA- Wheaton College field hockey standout Sara Dimick (Cumberland, ME/Greely) became the third Lyon to be named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Week this fall, drawing honors for the week ending on Sunday, October 22. It was the first weekly award of Dimick's career.

Dimick, a junior forward, played a big part in the Lyons' 1-1 week, tallying her second hat trick of the season during a 4-0 win over Mount Holyoke College on Saturday, as Wheaton tied the school records for overall (13) and conference (5) wins. Dimick netted her fifth game-winning goal of the season, and she has assisted on four other game-winners this fall.

Dimick continues to climb Wheaton's top-10 lists, as her 42 points and 16 goals are four and five short, respectively, of single-season school records Maureen Reynolds '88 established in 1987. Dimick also rose to third in career points (56) and into a tie for fourth in goals (21).

The Blue and White has clinched the third seed in the NEWMAC Tournament, which begins this Saturday, and will play host to a first-round tournament contest for the first time since the 1997 season. The Lyons also won 13 games in 1991 and 1983 while corralling five league victories one other time, in 1995 as members of the New England Women's Eight (NEW 8).

Dimick leads the Lyons into action in their regular season finale tomorrow night at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) at 6:00 p.m., as Wheaton looks for its program-record 14th victory of the season.
